TGlearn TEAMS: Learn to Tackle Life on and off the Field

TGlearn is now offering academic and executive function coaching to highschool and college football teams. TGlearn TEAMS teaches student athletes how to balance their busy schedules and strengthen their academic weaknesses. We do this by providing coaching in areas of deficit in Executive Function, as well as teaching critical academic skills like reading comprehension. This service helps student athletes learn to tackle their problems in school so they can be successful on the field.

Many student athletes have incredibly busy schedules chock full of sports-related tasks.

Many athletes are pulled out of class for travel games, stay long hours after school, and are required to memorize new material in class and on the field. All of this can be difficult for anyone to stay on top of, let alone highschool students.

TGlearn’s founder, Tammy Gibbs, discovered that many football coaches are so busy trying to keep their players eligible and present on the field that they have little time and energy left for strategic coaching. She then came up with a game plan to help coaches and student athletes maximize their time and talents. Below are just a few tools TGlearn uses to help your team perform their best on the field and in the classroom.

Customizable FASE It: Player Planner and Organizational System

One tool TGlearn uses to tackle Executive Function and academic learning deficits with student athletes is the FASE It. FASE It is a customizable player planner and organizational system that helps student athletes with planning and prioritization, organization, time management, and more. It allows student athletes to chart all of their tasks (ie: homework, practice, classes, and games) onto a calendar format. It also encourages student athletes to make weekly goals, take accountability, and learn to use their time efficiently.

The FASE It can be customized for any individual team. For example, Lipscomb Academy named their FASE It “The Mustang Way” after their team mascot. When completed as a team, the FASE It can help hold individual players accountable to the group. This leads to stronger bonds between teammates, better communication, and increased responsibility as a team.

Executive Function Small Groups

Another one of the tools TGlearn uses to tackle Executive Function deficits is the Executive Function Small Group. Many student athletes carry their challenges with Executive Function skills onto the field or court, inhibiting their overall athletic potential. Athletes often go from being solid players to phenomenal student athletes once they learned strategies to address their deficit areas in Executive Function.

Executive Function skills include: goal persistence, organization, planning & prioritization, time management, working memory, task initiation, emotional control, sustained attention, flexibility, leadership and response inhibition. Team EF Study Skills include the Executive Function skills needed to tackle life and become a higher performing athlete. TGlearn TEAMS works with players by utilizing various tools to enhance their skill sets on and off the field. These tools include an Athletic Executive Function Screener and Intervention guide, an Executive Function Organizational Planner for student athletes, on and off the field observations and recommendations, and individualized training.

Intervention Study Groups

In addition to Executive Function skills, TGlearn recognizes there will be players that need direct intervention with their academic learning. TGlearn determines if a player is in need of direct support via academic grade reports, assignment completion rate, player self evaluation, psycho-educational evaluation, presence of a defined learning difference, presence of ADHD or anxiety, and through parent or coach recommendation. Intervention study groups address how the player learns, provide the player with strategies and tools for his specific learning profile (in regards to comprehending what he reads and hears), as well as tools for studying, test preparation, and essay writing.
